The world revolves faster and faster, getting louder and more confusing. EVER SO SLIGHTLY portrays an increasingly disoriented society that has to deal with the chaos it creates. In a virtuoso manner, the Canadian-based choreographer Victor Quijada combines elements of hip-hop and martial-art moves with contemporary dance.

In his most recent piece, the dancers powerfully sweep across the stage as an aggressive pack, morph into persons driven by fear, or fight against each other in acrobatic contortions like soldiers of a foreign army. They are supported by the live electronic beats of the two musicians Jasper Gahunia and William Lamoureux.

After a phase of wild anger, they ultimately reveal their deep wounds. At times filled with aggression, at others deeply vulnerable, they remain trapped in their world, a world full of oppressive unrest.

Powerful theatricality and energetic improvisations characterise Victor Quijadas’ works. Born in Los Angeles as the son of Mexican parents, Victor Quijada first danced in B-boy circles and hip-hop clubs. He studied classical ballet at the Ballet Tech School for Dance and in 1999 went to Montreal to join Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. In 2002 he founded RUBBERBAND and developed his own technique, the RUBBERBAND method, that combines the power of hip-hop with the subtlety of classical ballet and the precision of contemporary dance.
