She is keen to deconstruct hip-hop vocabulary in order to reconstruct it, like a puzzle, to build her complex choreographies to increasing acclaim.

How do we define beauty? How identity? How do we perceive an individual, a couple and a collective? These are the questions the French-Vietnamese choreographer addresses in her current production. Translated to the stage, this means: which gestures provoke, which poses cause what reactions, and which movements narrate what personalities? In À mon bel amour, eight dancers seduce the audience into a shrewd play with perspectives, with the symbolism of dance becoming the means to assert one’s identity: from classical ballet, via voguing, krumping, popping and contemporary dance, all the way to waacking. Proudly, masterly and in ever new constellations, the dancers unravel our seemingly fixed notions of identity, calling our own perception into question – in a highly sensual and provocative way.

ANNE NGUYEN, the female hip-hop pioneer, repeatedly won the ‘Battle of The Year’ and was world champion in breakdancing. In 2005 she founded the COMPAGNIE PAR TERRE, with which she has been adapting the formal language of hip-hop to contemporary dance. In 2013 Nguyen was awarded the ‘Prix SACD Nouveau Talent Chorégraphie’, in 2015 the ‘Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’, and from 2015 to 2018 she was ‘associated artist’ at the Théâtre national de Chaillot in Paris.
