 What features are decisive for the impression an unknown person makes on you? Is it the age, gender, skin colour, origin, and height? With two dancers who didn’t know each other before the project began, Birgit Freitag in her most recent piece VERMUTUNGEN ÜBER (...) seeks other ways of conceiving persons and gaining an impression of them. In doing so, she makes use of a fragile creative process that repeatedly challenges one’s own standards for constructing characters. Attributions remain mere assumptions, and identity presents itself as ambiguous and diverse. The result is a dance and biography oriented, experimental arrangement dealing with identities, authenticity, self-presentation and attributions by others. At once playful, entertaining and profound.

From 1993 to 2002, the dancer and choreographer belonged to the artistic direction of the international dance festival TANZ Bremen. In 2000, BIRGIT FREITAG founded every friday | dance production for multi-discipline projects. She works for, among others, Theater Bremen, Theater an der Parkaue Berlin, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, and Theater Bielefeld. Since 2009 she has been creating dance pieces situated between movement portrait and biographical fiction. In 2017 the journal tanz ranked her as one of the 30 most promising talents in dance, and in 2019 she was awarded the theatre prize DER FAUST.
