Olivia Hyunsin Kim celebrates the 250-millionth anniversary of the Eurasian Plate. The German-Korean celebrates a reconciliation ritual between the two continents, focusing on a quite familiar fruit: the banana, which is originally from Southeast Asia, and thus Olivia Hyunsin Kim herself. After all, she is an ‘authentic banana’, as she says: yellow on the outside, white on the inside. With a keen sense of feminist and postcolonial references, Kim links in YELLOW BANANA her own origin and identity to a social criticism of the present. Fog smelling of coconut, a remote-controlled fan choreography, a wistful Eurasian hymn, and four gripping drummers with headdresses and flying ribbons make this evening a sensuous feast for all.

The culture of remembrance, feminism and identity constructions are the core artistic themes of Olivia Hyunsin Kim. Born in Siegen in 1987, Kim works as a choreographer and performer in Berlin, Frankfurt and Seoul. She is the founder of the ddanddarakim network and creates choreographies combining reality with fiction, the personal with the universal. In 2016 and 2017, she was a finalist for the Ponto Performance Prize, and in 2017 danceweb scholarship holder at Impulstanz.
