A turbulent force, a contemporary Amazon  TransAmériques

An “empty armour full of ideals” is how the German weekly Der Spiegel described Italo Calvino’s parodic figure of the “knight who didn’t exist”. Pedantry, sense of duty, perfection – are all staged by the Canadian star dancer. From head to toe in black, the unforgettably nimble punk of contemporary ballet still has us wondering where her furious limbs are at, even at the age of 58. Uncoupled? Held flat? Shuddering with fear? In any case: always precise. Whether with or without a partner: always at the ready. For our big and small battles.

As a brilliant master of dance techniques and a devoted artist, Louise Lecavalier from Québec evolved from 1981 to 1999 to a celebrated icon of the Canadian company La La La Human Steps and received coveted prizes including the New York Bessie Award. In 2006 she founded her own company and began creating choreographies. In 2014 she received the Governor Award in Montréal for her lifetime achievement.
