Graphical beauty and deep meaning  La scène

Upside down they explore the limits of gravitation: 16 dancers of the group Accrorap. On a three-dimensional painting, formations and dreamlike images full of speed, intoxication and energy emerge. The bodies osmotically liquefy in a common structure, to then organically dissolve again. Complex tableaux arise, unalterable snapshots: trios jointly seek ways to come to a halt. Like a big river, the music grips everyone, leads them to duets, lets them tow as if they were in a huge ocean. Or is it a desert? One person horizontally revolves his body in space – on one hand, endlessly. In OPUS 14, perfectly structured technique meets power and devotion. Even the tiniest turn creates tension, and formations mirroring each other give rise to fragility and poetry.

Kader Attou, a Frenchman of Algerian descent, belongs to the masterminds of the new French hip-hop scene. He mixes street dance with contemporary styles and graphical literature. In 1989 he founded his company Accrorap in Lyon and has been directing the choreographic centre of La Rochelle since 2008. He grasps his work as “a tribute to the weakest – and an ode to dancing humankind”.
