His moving images possess the high intensity of photographs: Marcos Morau creates dance at the intersections of film and theatre. The vocabulary of his expressionistic tableaus is fast, filigree and full of humour. In 2013 he won the National Dance Prize of Spain and was invited to the Venice Biennale for his total art works inspired by local geographies.
Carte Blanche, the innovative Norwegian, contemporary, national ensemble, has now invited the new master to a co-production. The focus is on the painter Edvard Munch, who had to sustain early experiences of loss due to his own illness and the early deaths of his mother and sister. How did that influence his art? With brilliant dancers, the choreographer explores the relationship between order and passion, discipline and illness. The world he creates on stage resembles the real world. But through shifts, the audience gains surreal perspectives on life.
